QCC members who attended the National Rally in Albany in 2019.
What a year 2020 was for the whole world! The COVID-19 pandemic very quickly spread
around the world, with many deaths and leaving economies worldwide stricken. Many
countries were casual about protecting their citizens, but in Australia, our federal and
state governments went to great lengths to protect our health and our economy. As a
consequence, we avoided much of the worldwide tragedy.
But, how was QCC affected specifically? Everything was shut-down to avoid unnecessary
contact between people; so QCC could not hold a rally April to July inclusive. So - our
AGM was postponed to September, the CCQ State Rally was cancelled in 2020, and QCC’s
st
71 birthday celebrations was deferred to much later in the year.
Further, when rallies resumed in August,
there were very specific laws regarding
how many could actually be there,
contact records and social distancing,
etc.
In the past, committees had always
turned to older members to advise how
things should be done; but who had been
through a pandemic before? I thank the
August rally at Esk with “social distancing”
committee for keeping in touch with
members during this lockdown period,
especially as so many would have been
feeling isolated, and particularly thank
President Paul Brearley and Secretary Heather Edney for their efforts to ensure that
members were safe and that QCC was acting within the constantly changing laws.
We have been advised that a vaccine will be available in March 2021, but will our lives
ever be the same again?
